Privacy Policy.

Last updated: August 7, 2026

Recipe Room is a photography app for sharing photos, film simulation recipes, camera settings, collections, Recipe Analyser, camera-transfer tools, and community activity. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, when we share it, and what happens when you delete your account.

When you create an account, upload content, buy or sell recipes, or otherwise use Recipe Room, we process your information as described in this Privacy Policy. Some information is required to provide an account or a feature you request; without it, that account or feature may not work.

01

Who we are

Recipe Room is operated in the United Kingdom by Declan Cowen, trading as Recipe Room.

For now, privacy questions, data requests, deletion requests, or concerns can be sent to privacy@reciperoom.io.

02

Information we collect

We collect information you provide directly, information created through your use of Recipe Room, and limited technical information needed to operate the service.

Account and profile information

  • Email address, username, first name, surname, password credentials handled by our authentication provider, and account identifiers.
  • Profile information such as avatar, cover photo, bio, location, Instagram handle, and public profile settings.
  • Account settings, preferences, theme settings, and other settings connected to your personal or photography experience.

Content and community activity

  • Photos, posts, recipe names, descriptions, sample images, camera settings, film simulation settings, tags, comments, collections, and other content you upload or create.
  • Photo and recipe metadata, which may include camera model, lens, film simulation, exposure settings, timestamps, location information, captions, tags, and other EXIF or file metadata if included in the image or provided by you.
  • Community activity such as follows, favorites, saves, reposts, hides, show-fewer signals, mutes, blocks, reports, and interactions with other users or content.
  • Report and moderation information such as report categories, explanations, supporting evidence, case references, reported accounts or content, warnings, content actions, restrictions, permanent bans, appeals, decisions, reasons, action histories, and related communications.
  • Private chat or direct message content and related message metadata if messaging features are available. We do not routinely access private message content, but may review relevant message context for reports, safety, abuse, illegal activity, disputes, or Terms enforcement.

Recipe Analyser and camera-transfer information

  • When you use Recipe Analyser, we temporarily process the untouched original JPEG or RAF file you select so we can read its embedded Fujifilm settings, camera and lens details, exposure information, file format, and other available metadata. We analyse only the selected cover photo, not other carousel images.
  • Recipe Analyser removes GPS and location metadata before analysis results are returned, cached, or saved. We do not use Recipe Analyser to retain or expose the location embedded in the original file.
  • Unsaved analysis uses short-lived private storage and a private metadata cache. If you explicitly save an Analyzed Recipe, we retain a private optimized preview, normalized settings, exposure and equipment details, analysis status, missing-field warnings, adapter version, and grouped metadata needed to support the result, excluding GPS and location data.
  • When you use camera transfer, we may process the connected camera model, firmware version, mobile platform, supported-setting information, selected custom slot, transfer and verification status, and limited diagnostic information needed to complete or troubleshoot the transfer.

Purchases and sales

  • If Recipe Room enables paid recipe sales, we may collect purchase history, sale history, receipt records, order identifiers, recipe access records, refund records, chargeback records, creator payout status, tax or payout status, and related transaction metadata.
  • Payment card, bank, wallet, billing, tax, and identity details may be handled by payment processors, payout providers, or app stores. Recipe Room generally does not need or receive full payment card numbers, CVV codes, bank login credentials, or buyer home or billing addresses for normal recipe purchases.
  • Where needed to operate paid recipe features, we may receive limited information from payment processors, payout providers, app stores, or service providers. That can include payment, tax, payout, receipt, refund, chargeback, country, currency, eligibility, verification, and compliance information.

Device, usage, and support information

  • Technical information such as IP address, device type, operating system, browser or app version, device identifiers, crash logs, security logs, upload logs, and server activity records.
  • Cookie, analytics, SDK, and similar technology information used to keep you signed in, remember preferences, measure performance, understand feature use, prevent abuse, and improve Recipe Room.
  • Push notification tokens and notification preferences if you enable notifications for account, community, recipe, purchase, or product updates.
  • Marketing, support, feedback, and communication records, including messages, bug reports, feature ideas, survey responses, and suggestions you send to us through official Recipe Room channels.
03

How we use information

We use information to operate, secure, improve, and support Recipe Room. This includes using information to:

  • Create and manage accounts.
  • Display profiles, photos, recipes, settings, posts, collections, comments, and community activity.
  • Store, process, resize, display, and deliver uploaded photos and recipe content.
  • Analyse an original photo you select to extract embedded Fujifilm settings and equipment information, remove GPS and location metadata from the analysis, and return complete or partial results for your review.
  • Save a private Analyzed Recipe only when you choose Save, or carry detected settings and the selected photo into a Post or Recipe draft when you choose to do so.
  • Check camera compatibility, transfer Recipe settings to the custom camera slot you select, and verify the stored values where camera transfer is available.
  • Enable search, discovery, feeds, follows, favorites, saved items, reposts, comments, and notifications.
  • Apply personal controls such as hiding content, showing fewer similar posts, muting accounts, and blocking accounts.
  • Process purchases, maintain proof of purchase, preserve buyer access to purchased recipes, and support creator sales if paid recipes are available.
  • Review account, profile, recipe, purchase, sale, refund, chargeback, payout, support, moderation, report, appeal, and relevant message records. We do this only where it is needed to operate Recipe Room, investigate disputes, prevent fraud, protect creators and buyers, respond to safety issues, decide appeals, or enforce our Terms.
  • Detect spam, fraud, scraping, copied recipes, abuse, security incidents, and violations of our Terms.
  • Respond to support requests, account deletion requests, reports, appeals, and legal obligations.
  • Send service messages, authentication emails, report confirmations, enforcement notices, appeal decisions, account notices, and product updates where permitted.
  • Send push notifications where you have enabled them.
  • Understand and improve app performance, reliability, safety, and user experience.
  • Review and act on feedback, feature ideas, bug reports, and support themes so we can decide what to fix, build, improve, or remove.

Our lawful bases

We use different lawful bases depending on why information is needed:

  • Contract. We process information needed to create your account and provide the features you request, including uploads, Recipe Analyser, saved content, camera transfer, community features, and purchases where available.
  • Legitimate interests. We process information where reasonably necessary to keep Recipe Room secure, prevent fraud and abuse, moderate the service, understand performance, improve features, and protect users and the platform, after considering the effect on your rights.
  • Legal obligation. We process or retain information where needed to comply with tax, accounting, safety, law-enforcement, consumer-protection, or other legal requirements.
  • Consent. We rely on consent where required for optional marketing, tracking, device permissions, or similar processing. You may withdraw consent at any time, although this does not affect processing that took place before withdrawal.

Where information includes special-category data or information about alleged offences, we process it only when an additional condition under applicable law permits us to do so.

04

What is public

Recipe Room is built around public photography and recipe sharing. Your public profile, username, avatar, bio, public photos, public posts, public recipes, recipe settings, comments, follows, favorites, reposts, and public collections may be visible to other users and visitors.

Do not upload content or personal information that you do not want others to see, copy, save, discuss, or associate with your public Recipe Room profile.

Unsaved Recipe Analyser results and saved Analyzed Recipes are private. They do not appear in public profiles, feeds, search, discovery, or public APIs. If you use an analysis to create and publish a separate Recipe or Post, that published content is public according to the choices you make in that publishing flow.

05

How we share information

We may share information in the following ways:

  • Public sharing. Public profiles, photos, recipes, settings, comments, and community activity are shared as part of the service.
  • Service providers. We may share information with providers that help us run Recipe Room, including hosting, databases, storage, authentication, email, analytics, security, customer support, payment processing, and app store services.
  • Purchases and sales. If paid recipes are available, we may share purchase, receipt, tax, refund, and payout information with payment processors, app stores, creators, buyers, and service providers as needed to complete and prove transactions.
  • Safety and legal reasons. We may share information to investigate abuse, protect users, enforce our Terms, respond to legal requests, comply with law, or protect the rights, safety, and security of Recipe Room and others.
  • Business transfers. If Recipe Room is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
  • With your direction or consent. We may share information when you ask us to or when you otherwise consent.

We generally do not disclose a reporter's identity to the reported user. We may disclose information where required by law or where reasonably necessary for safety, fraud prevention, security, or legal proceedings.

We do not sell your personal information. We also do not claim ownership of your personal information.

06

Ownership of personal information and content

Your personal information remains yours. Recipe Room does not own your personal information. You are responsible for making sure the information and content you provide is accurate, lawful, and yours to provide.

You also keep any rights you have in photos, original descriptions, and other original content you upload, subject to the license needed for Recipe Room to host, display, distribute, promote, store, process, moderate, and provide the service. A combination of camera or film-simulation settings is not personal information, and publishing it does not give a user exclusive ownership of those settings.

Recipe Room may store and display recipe names, source-recipe links, creator names, recipe type, settings, and edit history, along with reports and supporting evidence. We use these to provide credit where available, investigate concerns, prevent copied recipes from being presented or sold as original, and enforce our recipe originality and copying rules. Similar or identical settings may be created independently, so settings alone do not establish that a recipe was copied.

07

Account deletion and data retention

You may request deletion of your account. When you request deletion, we will delete or disable your account and remove personal information from active systems where reasonably possible, including account details, profile data, personal settings, personal photography settings, unsold private content, and other account-linked information that is not needed for the exceptions below.

Temporary Recipe Analyser originals and cached metadata are deleted when the active flow completes, is cancelled, or expires. A saved Analyzed Recipe remains private until you delete it or your account; deleting it removes the retained private preview and saved analysis data from active systems, subject to backups, security logs, and legal retention requirements. Limited camera-transfer diagnostics follow our normal security and service-log retention processes.

There are important exceptions:

  • Completed recipe purchases and sales. If a recipe has been sold or purchased, we may retain the sale record, purchase record, receipt, order metadata, recipe title, recipe settings, associated photos, and other recipe materials needed to prove the transaction and preserve buyer access.
  • Legal, tax, accounting, and dispute records. We may retain records needed for legal compliance, tax, accounting, refunds, chargebacks, fraud prevention, dispute handling, or enforcement of our Terms.
  • Safety and moderation records. We may retain reports and the record of what followed them: supporting evidence, case references, warnings, content actions, restrictions, permanent bans, appeals, decisions, and related communications. We may also keep limited information about accounts that were banned, restricted, or refused, or that were linked to abuse, fraud, or security concerns. We hold these records for as long as reasonably needed to protect the platform and the people using it, handle disputes and appeals, enforce account restrictions, comply with law, and prevent enforcement being evaded through new accounts, devices, login methods, or identities.
  • Backups and logs. Information may remain in backups, logs, and disaster recovery systems until overwritten or deleted under our normal retention processes.

Where we retain recipe sale or purchase materials after account deletion, we may remove or reduce personal identifiers where practical, but the recipe content, settings, photos, and transaction proof may remain available or preserved because other users purchased them.

We keep different categories of information for different periods. In general, we keep account and content information while your account is active, transaction and tax records for as long as needed for legal, accounting, refund, chargeback, and dispute purposes, security and moderation records for as long as needed to protect Recipe Room and other users, and backup copies until they are overwritten or deleted under our normal backup processes.

08

Your choices and rights

  • You can update account and profile information in the app where those controls are available.
  • You can delete content where deletion tools are available, subject to purchase, sale, legal, and safety retention exceptions.
  • You can manage muted and blocked accounts where those controls are available.
  • You can request account deletion.
  • You can unsubscribe from marketing emails where an unsubscribe option is provided.
  • You can usually disable push notifications through your device settings.
  • Depending on where you live, including in the UK, EEA, California, or other US states with privacy laws, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, restrict, object to, or opt out of certain processing of personal information.
  • You can contact us to exercise privacy rights. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
  • If you are in the UK, you may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint. We encourage you to contact us first so we can try to resolve the concern.
09

Cookies and similar technologies

Recipe Room may use cookies, local storage, analytics SDKs, crash-reporting tools, and similar technologies on our website and app. These technologies help us provide core functionality, remember preferences, measure performance, understand how features are used, detect fraud and abuse, and improve the service.

If we use advertising, cross-app tracking, or similar technologies that require consent or opt-out controls, we will provide those controls where required by law or platform rules.

10

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information. No online service is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee that information will never be accessed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed.

If a personal data breach does happen, we will report it to the Information Commissioner's Office within 72 hours of becoming aware of it where the law requires us to. If the breach is likely to put your rights and freedoms at high risk, we will tell you directly and without undue delay, and we will explain what happened, what it means for you, and what we are doing about it.

11

Children

Recipe Room is not intended for children under 13, or under the minimum age required in your country. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child without required consent, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

For child safety concerns, including suspected child sexual abuse or exploitation, contact our child safety point of contact at safety@reciperoom.io. You do not need an account to do so. See our Safety Standards for more. If you believe a child is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency service first.

12

International processing

Recipe Room is run from the United Kingdom, and the information you give us is hosted in the European Economic Area. Anyone in the world can use Recipe Room, so if you are outside the UK or the EEA your information will be processed in a country other than your own, under data protection laws that may differ from the laws where you live.

Transfers between the UK and the EEA are covered by the UK adequacy regulations, and transfers from the EEA to the UK are covered by the European Commission's adequacy decision. Where we use a provider outside these areas, we rely on an adequacy decision, approved contractual safeguards such as standard contractual clauses, or another permitted transfer mechanism. Ask us at any time and we will tell you which safeguard applies to your information.

13

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and may provide notice in the app, by email, or by another reasonable method.

14
